  4. Art is not the possession of the few who are recognized writers, painters, musicians; it is the authentic expression of any and all individuality.

  8. Instinct and study; love and hate;
    Audacity — reverence. These must mate,
    And fuse with Jacob’s mystic heart,
    To wrestle with the angel — Art.

  15. I love the piece, Funeral Procession.

    My sister-in-law, whom just passed away had a copy of this. But, I never noticed the background with all of the people going up the hill. She was African American, and her service was held at a predominantly Anglo church. It was so moving because the church was full. The priest said that he wished he saw this many people of color in his church, and that it would be a great day when that happened.
    Well, we did it that day. The service was beautiful. A pianist played old negro spirituals, and I know my sister was looking down, smiling.:-D

  17. First and foremost African American art represents my culture and part of who I am.

    It is our history in "painted form". It should be treasured and valued as much if not more than art by others.

    Go to art galleries and museums that showcase Black art and see our history our culture.
